Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go, even after Moses warned him of the consequences. So God sent Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh with a message: if he continued to harden his heart, Egypt would be filled with frogs.
Aaron stretched his hand over the waters of Egypt, and frogs came up from the rivers, canals, and ponds. They spread throughout the land, entering houses, bedrooms, and even the ovens and kneading bowls. Frogs were everywhere, covering the land of Egypt.
Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and pleaded with them to ask the Lord to take the frogs away. He promised to let the Israelites go and offer sacrifices to the Lord.
Moses cried out to God, and the Lord caused the frogs to die. They were gathered into heaps, and the land became filled with a terrible stench.
But when Pharaoh saw that the frogs were gone and relief had come, he broke his promise. His heart became hard, and he refused to let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had foretold.
