In 1991, a tragic incident occurred at the University of Ibadan Zoo in Nigeria when a religious preacher named Daniel Abodurin entered a lion enclosure, believing that his faith in God would protect him from the dangerous animals.
According to accounts of the incident, Abodurin was inspired by the biblical story of Daniel, who was thrown into a den of lions but survived through divine protection. Determined to demonstrate his own faith, the Nigerian preacher reportedly wore a red robe and carried a Bible as he approached the enclosure.
Witnesses reportedly watched as he entered the area where the lions were kept. Rather than keeping his distance from the animals, he began praying aloud, reciting Bible verses, and calling upon the God who had protected Daniel in the Scriptures. His actions suggested that he believed he would receive the same miraculous protection described in the biblical account.
However, the situation soon became terrifying, as the lions suddenly turned on him and attacked.
Despite his prayers and appeals to God, he could not escape the animals. The lions attacked and killed him inside the enclosure. His attempt to demonstrate the power of his faith ended in a heartbreaking tragedy.
