Buc-ee’s is the largest gas station in the world. It was started in the 1980s by a man named Beaver—I’m not joking! He launched this gas station south of Houston, and it initially appeared small and modest, much like any other gas station. He partnered with a business associate, and together they opened about 20 of these small gas stations near Houston.
In 2003, they decided to shake things up and opened a larger store in Luling, Texas, which is near San Antonio. This gas station was significantly bigger, and around this time, they also began selling t-shirts, Buc-ee’s merchandise, and their famous Beaver Nuggets. You could argue that this was when Buc-ee’s started to gain its cult following.
After 2003, they began opening many more large stores, each around 50,000 square feet with hundreds of gas pumps. Eventually, they expanded into Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. Today, there are over 40 Buc-ee’s locations across the nation.
